Remote monitoring is the latest technology-driven advance in medicine providing patients safe, quality healthcare while reducing costs and providing convenience to our patients. Electrophysiological advances allow patients with implantable defibrillators (ICDs), pacemakers, and implantable cardiac monitors to be monitored with fewer office visits.
These monitor systems are wireless or wanded and automated so that data is downloaded from the device using radio transmissions and communicate through a base station to the screening service or doctor's offices. These devices can be programmed to monitor at set intervals or when the device is triggered by the condition.
Physicians are notified by text message, fax, e-mail or website message and the results are downloaded into the patient's electronic medical records.
